Nairn Golf Club
Nairn, Scotland
BY RUSSELL KIRK
Like so many of Scotland's most respected courses Nairn is a descendant of Old Tom Morris and James Braid. The club was founded in 1887 with a layout that Old Tom reworked a few years later. Braid then polished it on three separate occasions from 1910 to 1926. Today it is ranked #12 in Golf World Magazine's 2015 list of the Top 100 Courses in Scotland and a must play for any golfer visiting the Scottish Highlands. The club plays a par 72 over 6,774 yards beside the Moray Firth less than 20 miles from Inverness. It's traditional out and back links whose first six holes hug the coastline before it finally turns inland where you'll find heather, gorse and more trees than typical for a links. The historic Bothy, the white building between the 9th green and the 10th tee, was built in 1877 for catching and storing salmon. It has been been converted into a halfway house where snacks and refreshments along with the stunning scenery.
