If you like your links with a pedigree, you'll love Lahinch. If you like unparalleled originality in your links, you'll love Lahinch. If you loath blind shots, you'll still love Lahinch. This grand dame of links golf was founded in 1892 along the North Atlantic coast of County Clare which is now an easy 45 minute drive from Shannon Airport. Old Tom Morris was commissioned to design the second original in 1894 which he did in dramatic fashion by routing the new course directly through much more of the dunes. In 1927, Dr. Alister Mackenzie was commissioned to reinvent the club which he did by routing the new course completely through the entire dunes system and down to the beach. Martin Hawtree's restoration / modernization was completed in 2003 producing the world's 42nd ranked golf course and something of a box of chocolates due to all the influences. Two of the sweetest are #4 Klondyke and #5 Dell, both are virtually unchanged from Old Tom's original and both require blind shots you'll never forget. It is tradition on Dell for the close up to buy.
